Swift Hired as New Deputy Treasurer for CAB
February 7, 2007 - In addition to filling a vacancy on its seven-member board and hiring a new business manager to replace the one who abruptly resigned, the Charles A. Beard School Board also dealt with several other issues during its January 23 special meeting.
Acting on a recommendation from Superintendent David McGuire, the board approved hiring Michelle Swift as CAB’s new deputy treasurer, effective January 29, with an annual salary of $35,000. McGuire told the board that Swift, who had been the treasurer at Knightstown High School since 1998, would be expected to become CAB’s treasurer once Judy Barnes steps down from that position. While Barnes’ resignation technically won’t take effect until the end of June, her actual departure is expected to come sooner than that as she takes advantage of time off she has accumulated.
The board approved a contract with Educational Services for Ray Pavy to work as an interim business manager for CAB. McGuire said he thought Pavy, a longtime educator and former assistant superintendent for the New Castle Community School Corporation, would work two days a week for about six weeks to cover the time before David Bundy starts as CAB’s new business manager and to aid in the transition. Pavy will be paid $525 a day for his services plus reimbursement for mileage and other expenses.
The board also approved contracting with Gayle Ratliff to assist with training CAB’s new payroll and benefits clerk, Diana Arellano. McGuire told the board that Ratliff, a former treasurer for New Castle CSC, will be paid $30 a day and be reimbursed for mileage, and is expected to work two to three days a week for no more than six weeks.
In other business, the board approved KHS teachers Rachel Shepherd and Scott Stanley as winter remediation teachers for the graduation qualifying exam (GQE). Shepherd will teach language arts, and Stanley will teach math.
