Only Post Hardware Remains of 1976 Businesses Seeking Support

Did you know that 30 years ago this week, on Nov. 28, 1976, the Knightstown Merchants’ Association placed a full-page ad in the Banner pleading with local residents to support the businesses in Knightstown. The advertisement promised that without local support the businesses would not be able to survive.

Those businesses included: Danner’s Variety Store, Rody’s Gift & Patio Shoppe, Rhea’s Flo Hickman Apparel, Allied Plumbing & Heating, Ewing Appliances, Western Auto, Knightstown Furniture Store, Robin Lee Dress Shop, Ratliff Jewelers, P.N. Hirsch & Co. Department Store, Flory’s Gift Shop, The Sew More Fabric Shop, George Thomas Florist, Jolly’s Drug Store, and Post & Post Hardware. Today, Post & Post Hardware is all that remains.
